Black Friday & White Friday waitlist from Instagram comments (2026)

ChattyFlow team · Updated

Collect everyone who comments on a teaser post, then DM them the discount code when White Friday opens on Friday 27 November 2026. Instagram allows one private reply per comment, within 7 days of the comment, so the teaser must not go up before Friday 20 November. ChattyFlow's Drop mode is an Instagram feature.

The rule that sets every date: 7 days

Instagram lets a business send one private reply per comment, within 7 days of the comment. For someone who has never messaged you, that reply is the only way into their DMs. Once they answer, a 24-hour window opens for the conversation.

ChattyFlow does not cap the release date; Meta does. Anyone who commented more than 7 days before their DM goes out can no longer receive the private reply. For a sale opening on Friday 27 November 2026, the earliest teaser is Friday 20 November, later in the day than your opening hour: for a midnight opening, post that afternoon or evening. Saturday 21 November gives a large account more margin.

Work within the limit, not around it: it is Meta's policy, and it keeps your account safe.

White Friday 2026 timeline

The timeline assumes the sale opens on Friday 27 November 2026, the day after US Thanksgiving (26 November). For another start date, count 7 days back from the release.

Date (2026)StepWhat you do and what happens

Friday 20 November after your opening hour, or Saturday 21TeaserPost the Reel ("Comment and we'll DM you the code on 27 November"). Comments join the list silently: no public reply, no DM.
Tuesday 24 to Thursday 26 NovemberReminderPublic only: share the teaser to your Story and pin it to your profile. No DMs: the one private reply is saved for the code.
Friday 27 November, opening timeLaunch DMSending starts within a minute or two: the DM first, then the public reply, at under 200 DMs an hour per account.

Last day of the sale, e.g. Monday 30 NovemberLast callPublic: a Story or Reel with the real end time. Don't DM the list again; a regular comment-to-DM automation on a new Reel can send the code.

Message templates

Every comment counts, even a single emoji, so the caption only needs to say what happens next.

  • Teaser caption: "White Friday starts Friday 27 November 🤍 Comment anything below and we'll DM you the discount code when the sale opens."
  • Launch DM: "White Friday is live 🤍 Your code: WF26, 20% off [collection] until [day, time]. In stock: [number] pieces." Button: "Shop the sale".
  • Public replies at release (four variants): "Sent, check your DMs 🤍" / "Your code is in your inbox" / "Done, look in your messages" / "Code sent, happy shopping".
  • Reminder Story: "The White Friday code arrives Friday 27 November. Comment on the pinned Reel to get it."
  • Last-call Story: "Last day: the sale ends tonight at midnight. Comment on this Reel and we'll DM you the code."

Delivering the discount code

  • Use the simple DM: the code in the text, and a link button that opens your sale page. The release sends that message and one button, not an advanced flow.
  • Keep the button label to 20 characters or fewer, such as "Shop the sale".
  • Everyone gets the same message, so this is one shared code. Set usage limits and an end date in your store's discount settings.
  • Never put the code in the public reply. Everyone can read it; its job is to say "check your DMs".
  • Test the link and code through to checkout the day before; until the release you can still edit the message or the schedule from the Drop tab.

Keep the offer honest: real prices, real stock

People who comment asked for something specific; that is why Meta lets you answer. An inflated offer costs you the customer, their trust and possibly a report.

  • The before price is one you actually charged, not one raised the week before.
  • If you say 50 pieces, have 50. When stock runs out, update the post and say so.
  • The end time is real: if the sale ends Monday at midnight, end it then.
  • No fake countdowns, and no "almost gone" when it isn't.
  • Check your country's rules on sales and promotions before you announce a discount.

TikTok: public replies that invite a DM

Drop mode is an Instagram feature in ChattyFlow. On TikTok, a comment can trigger a DM only for accounts in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia, and DM automation itself is not available in the United States, the EEA, Switzerland or the United Kingdom. These limits come from the TikTok Business Messaging API, not from ChattyFlow.

What works in the Gulf is the public reply, available in every country and posted within a few minutes. Use it to invite a DM on sale day: "On Friday 27 November, DM us WF and we'll reply with the code." Then set up a DM → DM automation on the word WF and keep it paused until the sale opens.

Reuse the setup: 11.11, UAE National Day, Qatar National Day

The same setup works for every Gulf sale season. Publish the teaser no more than 7 days before the release, later in the day than the release hour.

  • Each occasion needs a new post and a new automation: one automation holds one drop.
  • UAE National Day overlaps White Friday: its teaser goes up on 25 November, before the 27 November release. Use two separate posts; someone who comments on both gets one reply per comment.
  • 11.11 comes 16 days earlier: rehearse the whole setup on it, then compare results in "Compare your drops".

Why a comment waitlist works

The code lands on time

You set the release date and time once. Sending starts within a minute or two of the opening, even while you sleep.

Inside Meta's rules

One private reply per comment, only to people who commented, at a paced rate that protects your account. No cold DMs, no blasts.

People who asked for it

Everyone on the list commented after reading "comment and we'll DM you the code". Your message is expected, not a surprise.

Set it up in ChattyFlow

  1. In your Instagram dashboard, create a comment-to-DM automation. Pick "Next Post/Reel" and make the teaser your next upload, or "Publish New" to post it from ChattyFlow.
  2. On the keyword step, switch on "Drop mode". The keyword turns off: every comment on the post now joins the waiting list.
  3. Choose "At a set date & time" and enter the opening, e.g. Friday 27 November at 00:00. The time is read in your device's time zone.
  4. Turn on public replies and write four short variants that say "check your DMs". They are posted at release, after each person's DM.
  5. Write the simple DM: text with the discount code and a link button to your sale page. That is exactly what the release sends.
  6. Watch the "Drop" tab: people waiting and a countdown before the release, then Audience, Delivered and Delivery rate after it.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I post the teaser two weeks early?

Instagram allows the private reply only within 7 days of the comment, so earlier commenters could not receive the launch DM. ChattyFlow does not block a later release date, so keep the gap to 7 days yourself.

Does everyone get the code at the same second?

Sending starts within a minute or two, then runs at under 200 DMs an hour per account, oldest comments first: about an hour and a half for 300 people, about five hours for 1,000. A DM still waiting 24 hours after the release is dropped rather than sent late, so lists of several thousand won't be fully reached.

Do people get a reply while they wait?

No. Drop mode is silent until the release: no public reply, no DM. Say in the caption when the code will arrive, answer questions in the comments by hand, and don't plan a DM reminder: each comment allows one private reply, and that reply is the code.

Does this work on TikTok?

Drop mode is Instagram only, and TikTok's comment-to-DM works only in Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. Use public replies to invite a DM on sale day instead.

Which plan includes Drop mode?

Drop mode is part of the Growth plans, and every new account starts with a 14-day trial.

What happens to people who comment after the release?

The automation goes back to normal, so anyone new who comments on the post gets the code by DM within seconds.
