TikTok "User is not eligible for the Advanced Access tier" how to fix it

ChattyFlow team · Updated

This error comes from TikTok, about your TikTok account — not about ChattyFlow. It means your account is not yet cleared for TikTok's Business Messaging API, so direct messages cannot be read or sent for it.

What the error actually means

It is the account, not the app

TikTok says "User is not eligible" — Advanced Access is held per TikTok account. Even with a fully approved app, an account without it cannot use the Message API.

Only DMs are affected

Comment replies keep working normally. Only direct-message automations are paused for that account.

Reconnecting will not fix it

Signing out and reconnecting inside ChattyFlow changes nothing. The eligibility is granted on TikTok's side.

How to get your TikTok account eligible

  1. Open the TikTok app, go to Settings and privacy → Account, and make sure the account is switched to a Business account.
  2. Link that TikTok account to TikTok for Business: sign in at business.tiktok.com with the same account, or have it added to your Business Center.
  3. In the TikTok app, open Settings and privacy → Privacy → Direct messages and set who can send you messages to "Everyone". Automations cannot answer messages the account never receives.
  4. Make sure the account is not brand new, restricted or under review, and that it belongs to someone 18 or older — TikTok also refuses messaging for accounts it doesn't consider 18+.
  5. Back in ChattyFlow, there is nothing to click: a refused account is retried about once an hour, so your DM automations resume within about an hour of TikTok accepting it.
  6. If TikTok still refuses after all of this, contact ChattyFlow support with your TikTok handle — we will share the exact response TikTok returned for your account.

Good to know

  • Advanced Access is TikTok's own permission tier for the Business Messaging API — it is granted to accounts, not bought inside ChattyFlow.
  • Every refusal TikTok returns is recorded with its date and time, so our support team can show you TikTok's exact answer.
  • Your comment automations — including Comment to Comment and Comment to Trigger — keep running while DMs are blocked.
  • TikTok does not offer direct-message automation in the United States, the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, whatever the account's access tier.

Frequently asked questions

Is my app or my TikTok account that needs approval?

The TikTok account. The error text says "User is not eligible", and Advanced Access for the Business Messaging API is held per account. An approved app cannot send messages for an account that lacks it.

Will reconnecting my account fix it?

No. Reconnecting refreshes credentials only. The account has to become eligible on TikTok's side; after that, ChattyFlow picks it up on its own within about an hour.

Do my comment automations still work?

Yes. Public comment replies are unaffected. Only direct-message delivery is paused.

How long does TikTok take?

TikTok does not publish a fixed time. Once TikTok accepts the account, ChattyFlow notices on its own: a refused account is retried about once an hour.

How do I know when it is fixed?

Your DM automations start replying again, within about an hour of TikTok accepting the account. The red banner is based on TikTok's refusals from the last 14 days, so it can stay visible for a while after the fix.
